IMPORTANT NOTES

PCD Tooling for Gemstone Worktops

Safety, use and care instructions

SAFETY

Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn.

Always wear eye protection, an adequate dust mask & suitable hearing protection. Keep hands, hair and clothing clear of the cutter and cutting area. It is recommended users wear non-skid safety shoes and gloves.

Ensure the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) is adhered to. Users must be competent in using the relevant equipment and have had the necessary training in the correct use of the PCD tooling.

• ALWAYS disconnect tool from power source before making adjustments or changing cutters.

IMPORTANT NOTES

It is essential that the tooling is used in line with Wilsonart’s training instructions. To get the best performance from your Gemstone PCD (polycrystalline diamond) cutter do not use undue pressure on the router as this will result in damage to the cutter blades.

It is recommended to always make a series of small cuts. Please ensure you slow the pass speed to allow the cutter blades to do the work. Never start the router with the router tool in contact with any work piece.

Check the router collet periodically for wear and replace if required.

Perform trial cuts on scrap pieces of material first for familiarity and to understand cutting characteristics before any production run is attempted.

SET UP INSTRUCTIONS

Please read and understand all the safety points of these instructions as well as the power tool instructions before use.

Always inspect the cutting tool completely before fitting. Never attempt to operate a tool which has chipped, worn or damaged edges.

When fitting the tool or removing it from the hand router, ensure the cutting edges are protected and do not knock against anything. Be sure the router tool shank is positioned at least 3/4 into the collet, do not bottom out the shank it should have a 3mm gap or positioned on the “k “ line when available.

• ALWAYS disconnect tool from power source before making adjustments or changing cutters.

GENERAL INFORMATION

When using PCD (Polycrystalline Diamond) Cutting Tools, the utmost care must be exercised. PCD tools are extremely hard, but brittle and ground to extremely sharp edges. They are very fragile and can be easily damaged if knocked with another object (such as a spanner).

If the diamond edge has been chipped or damaged the blade surface can quickly deteriorate causing problems with finish and tool life. - Diamond is the hardest substance known to man, but still requires proper care to maximise its benefits.

The maximum speed marked on the tool, or shown in the chart or on the packaging, should not be exceeded. Protect the PCD tooling at all times when not in production by keeping it in the supplied case.

SERVICING - RE SHARPENING

The tool will periodically need cleaning to remove build up of resin etc. Wire brushes or metallic objects should not be used.

PCD tooling should only be cleaned with cellulose thinners or other solvent cleaners. If the tooling edges have become blunt or damaged return them to Router Tooling Ltd for inspection.

Tooling should be sufficiently packaged to prevent transit damage and returned to Router Tooling Ltd with your company details (inc phone number) enclosed. You will be contacted on its condition and cost to refurbish/repair.
